even the winds

As most of you should know by now hundreds and hundreds of flights to and from Northern Europe were cancelled yesterday and today due to volcanic activity in Iceland. The volcano has been spewing out volcanic ashes and particles into the atmosphere and as a result of that a massive ash cloud has been forming and spreading all across Scandinavia and the UK. Some other places were minorly affected too.

I was meant to be flying back to Dublin yesterday morning, just when the ash threat started. I don't know about you but there have been times when I have wished something supernatural just like that would happen like before an exam or something....not the day I am meant to be flying home. My flight was cancelled. I'm still in England at the moment following forecast updates as closely as possible.

The last two days I have not known what to do with myself... It's been sort of like getting an extra two days of holiday but not knowing what to do with them. The volcano is still emanating ash and the cloud seems to be getting bigger, so truth is I don't know when it will stop and when I will be flying back to Dublin!!! It could take the whole weekend, or week. *O_O

It reminds me of how powerless man is against nature. God created and owns nature. I look at pictures of the ash cloud and volcano and think... WOW. God is big. Those kinds of things are just beyond us and although I am frustrated not knowing when I will be getting to Dublin I have this peace inside knowing that my God is that big, he owns volcanoes, with one breath he created them, with one thought he could destroy them all.

"Who is this?
He commands even the
winds and the water,
and they
obey him."

(Luke 8:25)

here's some stunning photos of the volcano/cloud: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/04/icelands_disruptive_volcano.html (thanks Alex for the url)
